Parking Meter VS Parking Man

Parking Meter
Almost everywhere on the side of the street in every town has it, a parking meter. Basically the same with everywhere in the world, you rent a place to park your vehicle to the landlord (usually government), and you pay for the rent fee.

I have to put coin(s) and the timer will shows up indicated how long I can park my car there. 25 cents is for twenty minutes; and honestly.. I don’t like this thing -_-”

Once I had to ran out from restaurant while I had my lunch with family to refill the meter parking because the lunch took longer than I thought. I also got ticketed some later time; my parking meter was expired for 10 minutes more, because I was stuck on the queue line on 5th floor office. Fined for 40$, awesome.

How could I calculated how long I will be gone, when everything could happened out of the blue? Should I add more coins there? Eww… wasting money, it’s not like that thing will give me changes if I have extra times left.

Well, some certain places are having their own parking space. Parking Building, pay later based on hourly rate. Well, that’s more universal, but it’s frikin expensive. 5-8$ / hour, and about 30 to 40$ overnight. What can I do.. it’s the system. Welcome into a modern society… where you can also even scratch a credit card to pay the parking fee.

I miss the parking man, lol. They… are gods. If you visit Indonesia, don’t worry about “Where should I park my car?” or “Can I park there?” The only thing you might want to worry about is.. “Will my car be safe?” which I found it creped me out sometime, even for a bike or motorcycle. But overall they’re good… I swear.. ^^;

Parking Man, they always make a place for you to park your car, even in unbelievable crowded place. They can claim whatever land surround as their own property (LOL) and frankly say “You can park here sir!” (more less like that). Wherever you stop, you can see them around in your sight, and you can park as long as you want.

Funny thing is, even in some places (shopping districts) have a parking space for customer, these parking man will still in “duty” to make sure your car parked “safe” and hoping (you better be) paying them later on, even if it’s written on the wall in huge size “FREE PARKING.” Don’t be fooled by the sign, just bring cash anywhere you go. It’s not like with parking meter, where every morning the government agent will collect all those coins inside the machine, and go where it has to go. Parking Man is more like profession.. a labor. Don’t care who’s land is it.

Btw, I found these pictures from a forum (thanks to Fey@Ngeceng.com).
Parking Garage In German
It’s a parking garage in German. It said located in Wolfsburg, even I’m still not sure whether it’s real or not. But still.. It’s such a piece of art isn’t it? All cars are so coordinated, and it safe, since no one in their right state of mind will get in there. It seems pretty expensive though..

Parking Garage In German
I wonder when this kind of garage will be built in my country…
Maybe all of those parking man will protesting due to mass-eliminating of their work fields. Even so.. one thing that you should keep in mind is, park at your own risk. It’s not surprising if you find your car towed and the parking man were gone with the wind.

I’m not so sure about those state of the art garage…
it is expensive and it took forever for the car to reach bottom
I like parkin man better, never lost my car with them and all it take is somewhere around Rp3000 which worth like $3

    Uhm… Rp.3000 is about 30 cents, not 3$.

Anyway, that cool parking garage, I think it just as fast as the elevator from 10th floor on supermall parking space to reach the bottom.

Beside with valet, they should drive the car by circling the building to reach the bottom instead of go straight downward.

Well, don’t know for sure tho, lol.

I like that swanky personal garage.
It would do better if the elevator has a “personal-customed-speed” button. So the driver could choose the speed according to their mood and personality.

Press SLOW to experience a slow gently ride to your personal garage, just enjoy the ride! Fits well for old people, people with heart attack problem, stressed out people who need some peace goin’ on in their life.

Press MEDIUM for average speed if you’re not in such a hurry, save yet not too slow.

Press FAST for you who are in a hurry! You don’t wanna get late for that thing do you? But before you decide to press this button, make sure that you won’t get any air-sick in the run and turn your personal swanky garage into a …

Press UNBELIEVABLY FAST button for an extra adrenaline rush on the go. Don’t forget to put your hand break on, coz you don’t wanna end die on the ground since your car, due to the elevator speed, can’t tolerate the unpredictably shocking speed and move forward/backward by it self during the lifting progress. Cool!

Oh yeah, and now I know why do they (Americans) pay good money for people who’s willing to work hard. It’s for your daily parking fee! *lol* I still think Indonesian Parking Man is wayyyy much better than all those parking meters ;)

@Q: I really doubt there will be a living human inside those cars in parking garage.. All owners must have waiting on the first floor and let the operator bring the cars down..

    It’s a garage, not supermall’s parking building.

    I wrote
“..since no one in their right state of mind will get in there.” hahaha.

I thought Parking Meter and Parking Man only exist in movies!! lol, coz we don’t have any of them here, “free for all” comes first takes first and stays till he’s bored, you can park your car in the middle of the road or on the sidewalk, alot of people do it, but if you return and see the window broken or the tire flat don’t ask who/why ?!

of course it’s different in the airport.
