Gothic Lolita

Or LoliGoth; it’s one kind of trend in fashion that is really catchy. It’s quite popular among teenager especially in Japan, and often used in anime or manga characters. Lolita fashion is based from Victorian style, England, it’s created the sense of elegant and beautiful instead of sexy; where Gothic is more like dark, mystic and mysterious.
Simply said, Gothic Lolita is the combination between both styles, mysterious and elegant. It’s not just a “fashion,” since it is not something that we can wear in everyday use. Heavy stuffs, hundreds of patterns, accessories, and make ups are not something that mostly people willing to wear and do everyday; but in Tokyo and Osaka, we could find people wearing Gothic Lolita’s style on the street. Nothing odd with that, it’s blended with the fashion lifestyle in Japan (damn!).
Gothic Lolita fashion also influenced the world outside of Japan. The highest source is from Anime, which is strongly tied with the Cosplay (Costume Player) activity. Anime lovers in United States usually having a yearly Anime Convention, where all participants are wearing costumes from their favorite anime / game characters. Regardless of gender, there are some males who also pleased to wear the GothLoli style…, which is more like “crossdressing.” Some males will do very well and looks so beautiful…. otherwise disturbing.

The Gothic Lolita fashion takes the big part in the world of Rock and Metal band in Japan. They’re also known as Visual Kei, guys who wearing a heavy make up, and make themself looks scarry, feminim, or both ways. Some of the famous bands with their appearances are Malice Mizer, Gazette, Alice Nine and they’re doing it so well.
I personally really love this Gothic Lolita style, even I feel like wasting my time since it’s normally dedicated to female, and it’s not easy to be a beautiful male (lol?); but it just fun how we could change our appearance in completely different way. Even in society it requires a highly open minded personality to accept this trend, most of us just don’t care. I probably will take GothLoli for the next coming Anime Festival 2008. Probably… xD
