Just in case you don’t know what is it, it’s Facebook. The online social networking are definitely brought the whole new dimension in human interaction. This post is still related to my previous post, Technology and Me :) – So, here’s the summary of my journey in this cyber world community.
So, let’s call this.. OSN (Online Social Networking – ^^). The first OSN I knew was mIRC, an Online Public Chat system. Then I found Blogger as well. A website that provides a free blogging service.
Later on, I started to know InvisionBoard – a Forum :) where everyone can write, discuss, read about almost everything. DAIForum was the first board I joined, and today, I am still on it :) – dedicated to Do As Infinity fans.
Then, I found MMORPG, and Ragnarok Online was the first MMO I played (thanks to my cousin, Bayeks). That game was pretty much the most memorable part of my online life. I am sure I remember everything I’ve done in my online Ragnarok adventure during those 4 years, and thousands words will never be enough to express all the stories I’ve had :)
I also stepped on DeviantArt for a short period of time, until I completely forgot my password, while I gave a random birthday numbers and accidently deleted my registered email address, I never been able to recover my DA account anymore – therefore, I left. Pfff…
Next is Friendster. The first show-off OSN website I knew. Yes, pimp out yourself with your narcist best photos! Hehe, been there, done that, had enough of it. Followed up by some similar websites such as Orkut, Myspace and finally Facebook.
I have learned L337, n00b, and PeoPlE WhO lOVe to WriTE LiKE dHis!! (Wh1ch iZz ReT@rdED, I sWe@R!!…) all thanks to OSNs. I remember in FOX News, there was a teacher who was totally against OSN because it’s destroying student’s grammar including spelling and punctuation. I found that amusing instead – x)
So my point now, is it good to have this OSN culture around us? When people tend to stay in front of computer to interacting with each other, instead of going out, have lunch and dinner together, watching movie, or go to theme park with groupies like we used to do?
We also heard so many bad cases happened all around the world revolving the OSN community such as scams, homicides, rapes, suicides, closed-in. It’s unavoidable anyway. Wherever you go, there always dark and light, bad and good.
Sometimes I wonder why parents prefer their child to have 5 hours of playing baseball or running the kite, rather than spending 5 hours on computer reading Wikipedia :). That’s not a fair comparison anyway hehehe. So let say, is it better to stay on Facebook 10 hours a day, rather than staying in a bar 10 hours a day socializing? – the answer is vary, and I don’t really care.
But if… using OSN, I can found my childhood friends, my first love, my respected teachers, my one night stands (j/k), my circles, whom I lost contact with for decades, and magically within a second, I can start having a conversation with them through online messenger after all these years of silence; don’t you think OSN deserve to get my respect? :)
One thing just entered into my dream list. I want to held a huge Christmas celebration with all my colleagues that I could possibly remember since I was a kid until the future me will be. I know it’s hard to be realized, but I dare to dream it ^^.
Warning: Play Facebook responsibly! Excessive gaming can be harmful to your health. :P
I hope i ll be part of that Christmast Huge too
