Happy Labor Day!

laborday I got a Monday off tomorrow, Labor Day. I firstly though it’s one of holidays that only being celebrated in USA, but actually it’s inspired from Canada. Yeah, to put it simply, it’s the appreciation day for labors: mostly us. The 8 hours paid are granted for USA’s labors for taking a day off. How about those who are working 12 hours / day shift? Well, companies have their own policy then.

I looked up on the internet, and I noticed it’s not only in USA and Canada. The history shows that it such an international celebration in major countries. Here’s the list of countries which are celebrating it. Nice? Well, yeah, but the fact that I couldn’t recall any memory about this kind of holiday ever exist in my country is a little bit tick me off, hahaha.

But first of all, it got me to think why they chose “Labor” instead of “Worker” for this. Well, in my general opinion, labor will also covering the lowest paid-job such as? Garbage Picker? I don’t know, but it just the matter of equality I believe. I also notice that the labors with hourly-wage, they are more protected by law about their rights and benefits instead of the monthly-salary workers.

Isn’t it nice? Labors are fairly appreciated in this country, yet instead, they’re almost neglected in my country. The minimum wage is too low, where in some states, they even paid lower than the minimum, and the funny part is… nobody cares :D

Their benefits are the best source to feed their chairmen, overworked, unpaid holidays, well, I don’t mean to make it sounds so disgusting, but at least that’s what happened for the past decade. Of course I wish it’ll get better overtime ;-(

But in both hand, hourly-wage and monthly-salary people, are equally have the right to be appreciated for the time they have given to their company, right? This is one from other things I really admire here in USA beside their internet-speed.

So, keep up the good work, work hard, work smart, keep your dignity, praise the Lord, and moving forward. Happy Labor Day for everyone.
