Cross Game [Anime]

cross-game This is definitely one of my favorite anime in this season. Adapted from the manga, Cross Game is created by Mitsuru Adachi, the same author of Natane and Touch (his only works I’ve read in past); along with his other dozens of creations. It’s a light story, nothing is complicated, it’s funny, warm, romantic, stupid and silly – nice to watch while you’re enjoying your afternoon tea and cookies :)

The story based on the baseball, even though there is nothing as complicated as others generally. Basically, baseball is their hobby, and they’re quite good — that’s pretty much self explanatory heh…

The rest of the story is related to their high school life, their childhood and their dream. The girl on the picture above, she’s Aoba, which is Wakaba’s sister, aka Kou’s (the boy) girlfriend. Here’s the cute picture of Wakaba and Kou :)

Unluckily, the sweet, easy-going, gentle and kind Wakaba passed away in the very first episode, while she was trying to save a young drowned girl in the river.

The story goes on, how Kou is still trying to realized the dream he had promised Wakaba, to bring her into Koshien. Her younger sister, Aoba, is a tomboy; and she’s pretty much being a tsundere towards Kou – for some reasons.

Reason 1: In their childhood, Aoba was being jealous for Kou being Wakaba’s center of attention.

Reason 2: I remember Wakaba once told Aoba that she might ask anything, except to steal Kou from her.

Reason 3: Kou was suck at baseball (pitching) – while Aoba was so much better :D — Aoba once said “The person I will like is if he could pitch at 160 kmph” – and Wakaba responded “Kou could do that if he wants!”

As we leaping forward, Kou is getting better and stronger, and Aoba started to feel different for Kou, even though it’s going to be really complicated since the reason number 2 and 3 are overlapping each other. They both love Wakaba so much, and Aoba know that Wakaba and Kou is forever.

The heart-warming story, a nice slap-stick comedy with a unique comical style from Adachi, wrap up nicely within this anime.
